The Emissions-Intensive Thesis

• Low-Impact Investment: Buying solar energy in a grid that is already saturated with renewables. This adds marginal value; the grid is already clean.
• High- Impact Investment (Akamai Strategy): Buying wind energy in a carbon-intensive grid. Every megawatt-hour we generate here directly helps dirtier sources of power to ramp down.

By focusing our attention on dirtier grids, we maximize the avoided emissions per dollar spent. We are not just cleaning up our own ledger; we are helping to clean up the global supply chain.
